WHEN SOLVAY Healthcare wanted to reach out to patients and carers who had recently been affected by heart attacks, they chose a leaflet and poster campaign with IDS UK.
By having their leaflets and eye-catching posters in doctors surgeries, they wanted to communicate with patients getting over heart attacks (typically men) and their carers – wives, girlfriends, mothers and sisters.
Ian Davidson, CVS Group Product Manager for Southampton based Solvay, explained IDS was able to advise on the look of their posters and leaflets so they had the maximum impact.
“We have been pleased with the take up of our leaflets - we are promoting a product rather than a service or creating a disease awareness leaflet. We decided this year to adopt a patient approach with regard to our product strategy. One of the best ways to access patients and carers is via the waiting room and if they pick up our leaflets they will take them into the doctor's surgery and ask about our product,” he said.
Solvay wanted to promote Omacor, a medicine that contains omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. These are special fats that the body needs to stay healthy.
Omega 3s are believed to have many effects on the body including:
Mr Davidson added: “From our point of view, the take up so far has been pretty good and it will be reviewed going forward.”
Sales Manager Patrick Connor said Solvay's experience of the Waiting Room Information Services was a good example of how a campaign can be targetted to reach specific people.
“Solvay wanted to access the carers – the wives, girlfriends and partners – who may be looking after men who have just had heart attacks. Typically women will visit the doctor's surgery more than men so it was criucial to catch their eye with the campaign. We wanted them to pick up the leaflets and discuss the product with their GP. We were able to advise Solvay on the look of their posters and leaflets to achieve the maximum impact, “ he said.
